Potion Mistress....

I'm off to a garden tour for the day so I'm listing my Ehag Emporium piece a tad early.

This is the Potion Mistress, mounted atop a sign that reads

Black Hat Potions.

She is hand sculpted out of Papermache and her stragly white hair is sheeps wool.

I've cut the sign in the shape of a witch's hat, faintly seen behind the witch.

There are bat wings made of wire behind the witch's head as well.

The sign is distressed, with copper tacks and acrylic paint.

The Potion Mistress sees all and she awaits the ideal doorway to adorn!

Loved all the horses!
The only stumble in the entire procession was an uncommon fall from one of the horses.
I guess the cheering crowd was too much for this fellow!



 


Fortunately, neither horse or it's 19yr old rider appeared to be hurt, and the horse made straight for home – the stables of the Horse Guards’ Barracks further up Whitehall .

Years ago, my folks and I used to go to a wonderful place (which is unfortunately gone now) called the Antique Guild, in Tustin, California. This was a wonderland warehouse of antiques galore that had just been brought over from England and Europe, and you never knew what kind of treasure or piece of history you might find. Within it's cavernous walls they had an area called, "scratch and dent", for the unfortunate bits that arrived somewhat the worse for wear. Sideboards might be missing a carved Renaissance style cherub, or the 200year old hide glue had let go it's grip from an old English Carousel animal and it was now in pieces and in a box waiting to be reassembled by some loving hand. You just never knew what you'd find, and of course, this was in the days before Ebay when you just didn't see things like this.

One visit, I happened to spot a wonderful cast iron door propped up in a box along with a small knob of some sort, and a rusted out iron box still full of ash. Being attracted to anything old and laden with rust, I began searching for what it might have come from and got my Mom involved searching as well. Jackpot! We found this wonderful old Victorain wood burning stove/range from Manchester England.

We had the perfect place for it and bought it on the spot.

It took three men and a mule to lift it, but

 for nearly 35 years now, when people first come in the front door of our house,

 one of the first things they see is this lovely old stove.

I decorate it for each holiday, and thought I'd start sharing my stove creations with you this year.

Sunday Delight...

My Mom and I went down to Roger's Gardens in Newport, to see the Spring flowers and

oh my goodness...

what a display!

Not only did we enjoy the flowers but we got a chance to see fellow EHAGer, Vergie Lightfoot's

amazing Spring kittie collection. Like so many other artists work, photos cannot express how wonderful her work is in person. Fantastic!

We also saw such beauties as this purple Anemone above.

Then there were the many varieties of Cineraria, and we had to come home with these two.

This Clematis is the first of the blooms on my plant here at home and this year

it's just loaded with buds. Hooray!

What they say about Perennials is true...

The first year they sleep;

The next year they creep;

This is the entry to Rogers Gardens and what a show of Delphinium!

They were everywhere!

The main room at Rogers had these large Horses overhead and birch branches eye-hooked together

hanging in the background, and it gave the impression of a wooded forest around the room.

The Double Delight in my garden is really budding out with the heat we've had these last few days.

This was a wall of ferns at Rogers. I thought it interesting how they combined

Maidenhair, Chinese Painted, Birds Nest fern (to name a few), and Bromeliads to a cooling effect

behind this restful fountain.

A Celebration of Life and Spirits in the Heavens!

Today the PFATT sisters of Primitive Folk Art Talk & Tea, along with the family and friends of a beloved and missed PFATT sister, Penny McAllister, released balloons to celebrate what would have been Penny's 59th birthday.

This is also to celebrate the lives of all loved ones who have past.

Whether long lived or far too short, know that you are loved and missed.

WIPed into shape....

So after much ado, then procrastination, fiddling about, then more ado, I decided to say adieu to

trying to sew actual little clothes for my gentleman bun, and just sculpted them instead.

I must say, I have SO much admiration for the artists that make the clothing for their creations. For some reason, messing about with the needle and thread somewhat manifests to me as, instead of writer's block, something of a sewer's block or something. For now, I'll have to conclude I'm meant to do otherwise ... which I must say, I'm VERY happy about.

Does anyone else out there find sewing a challenge? I've made a Renaissance Faire costume for my horse and I years ago, but that was over sized and it seems much easier to hide a mis-stitch on larger projects.

 As my Grandma Tinnon used to say (she was an excellent seamstress by the way), 

"On a galloping horse, no one will notice!"

Now, if only my art customers were on galloping horses! Ha!

No, I've not given up, just putting tiny sewing on the back burner. What a relief!!! 

At any rate, here are some of my works in progress, awaiting paint.

I also have a couple of small paintings in the works as well.

The flowers in bloom this week are ravishing red.

My Mr Lincoln rose has gone crazy and is loaded with blooms. 

The Abutilon over the pond is loaded down with flowers as well.

The Salvia is looking lovely too.

"Aurum" Owl

  The yellow of gold is an orangish-yellow,

                                                  Much the same as this big eyed fellow.

His voice heard above, to the side and below,

But heed to his call, as your goosebumps grow.

He tells of a night, filled with candy and fright,

Indeed Aurum tells of Halloween night!

Cool Autumn air, with a spooky hoot flair,

The crunch of dry leaves, fallen down from the trees.

Listen, don't tarry, we're off to make merry,

It's All Hallow's Eve, ... and you thought this was scary.

In Welsh, Aurum means Gold, and this little Owl brings
with him the Midas touch. Golden leaves in the Autumn,
the warm glow of a crackly fire,
and the amber of Halloween carmel for apples and popcorn. Yum!. :-)

More clicky clicky on the ol' " Like" key....

 I've been doing major construction and building a new business/artists Facebook page, following the lead of my fellow artists. (Yes, it's different from the Personal Page)

Facebook has made several changes, which have now made it much easier for visitors to link to artists blogs, photos galleries, and Etsy shops, all of which is making for

a nice one stop sees all (almost) experience! :-)
Talk about making things easier.... Oh Wow! I've only just, figured out
how to link an image! WhooHoo! I'll master this blogging yet! lol

Gwallter the Welsh Goblin

It's time for the EHAG Artist Challenge and here is my piece

"Gwallter, the Welsh Goblin"

Goblins are a very different and often grotesque variety of gnomes. They are small, mischievous creatures that revel in harassing and annoying humankind with their pranks. They are often playful, but they have a spiteful and selfish nature and are prone rudeness. They love to throw rocks, alter signposts, hide objects, and they’ll stick their tongue out at you if confronted. Goblins inhabit much of the world and can be found near rocky outcroppings and around the roots of ancient trees at the forests edge.

Around St Patrick’s Day Goblins are said to play tricks on the Leprechauns as well, which causes much hoopla in the Fairy world. The Leprechauns, also known as Fairy Cobblers have a dislike for Goblins because they have a habit of hiding their shoe buckles in the hollows of oak trees.

Halloween is the Goblins favorite time as they are more prone to Tricks than Treats.

“Gwallter” has been caught hiding a Halloween Ghost pumpkin, so, in true Goblin form,

he has stuck out his tongue to nettle you further.
